What happens at my telehealth consultation?Updated 18 hours ago

Quick answer

Your Adegen telehealth consultation is an asynchronous physician review, not a live video call. After you complete the medical questionnaire, a licensed physician reviews your HairIQ™ results and your intake, and either approves your protocol, approves with adjustments, asks for more information, or declines if it's not appropriate. Most reviews complete within 24 hours and you'll get an email with the outcome.

What the Physician Reviews

Your full intake, which includes:

  • Your HairIQ™ answers (loss pattern, history, preferences, eligibility)
  • Your medical questionnaire (medications, allergies, relevant medical history)
  • Any photos you've submitted (where applicable)
  • Any notes or questions you've added

The Questions the Physician Is Asking

Behind the scenes, the physician is working through:

  1. Is the recommended protocol appropriate for this person's clinical situation?
  2. Are there any contraindications based on their medical history or current medications?
  3. Does the variant strength match the stage of loss?
  4. If a DHT blocker is included, is the type (finasteride vs dutasteride) and route (oral vs topical) the right call?
  5. Should Tadalafil be added as a protective option?
  6. Are there any patient-specific adjustments worth making?

What the Outcomes Look Like

  1. Approved as recommended. The most common outcome. Your kit goes into compounding and ships.
  2. Approved with an adjustment. The physician approves your protocol but with a tweak: for example, a different variant, a different dose, or an added/removed medication. You'll get a message explaining what changed and why.
  3. More information needed. The physician has a follow-up question about a medication, a condition, your goals, or anything that came up in your intake. Respond as quickly as you can to keep your timeline on track.
  4. Declined. Not every customer is a fit for every protocol. If the physician declines, you'll get a clear explanation of what they saw and what alternatives are available. See our guide on what to do if you were denied a prescription.

Is There a Live Video Call?

For most customers, no: the consultation is asynchronous. This keeps the process fast and lets your physician give thorough attention to your file without scheduling friction. If your situation requires a live conversation, your physician will reach out to arrange one.

How Long Does It Take?

Most reviews complete within 24 hours. Reviews with follow-up questions take longer, depending on how quickly you respond.

Can I Message My Physician Afterward?

Yes. After approval, you can message your provider through your Adegen account portal anytime, whether for protocol questions, side effect concerns, changes you'd like to discuss, or anything that comes up during your protocol.

What the Physician Can't Do

Your Adegen physician is licensed to prescribe within the scope of hair loss treatment. They are not a substitute for your primary care provider for unrelated medical issues, urgent symptoms, or comprehensive medical care. For acute medical concerns, please contact your PCP or, in an emergency, call 911.
