Will Adegen work for my type of hair loss?Updated 3 hours ago

Quick answer

For the large majority of people, the cause of thinning and hair loss is the same: a healthy hair follicle losing its blood supply over time. More than 90% of hair loss is androgenetic ("pattern") hair loss, and Adegen is built to address exactly that, at the follicle. The main exception is autoimmune hair loss such as alopecia areata (typically sudden, patchy loss), which has a different cause and should be evaluated by your provider. The HairIQ™ assessment is designed to match you to the right protocol for your situation, or flag when Adegen may not be the right fit.

The common question: "Will this work for my hair?"

People often ask whether their hair loss is a "special type" that treatment won't help. In reality, there aren't many different root causes. Whether it shows up as a receding hairline, a thinning crown, or overall reduced density, the underlying mechanism is usually the same: a blood flow restriction at the hair follicle that weakens it over time. It's less about the "type" of hair loss and more about restoring the health of the follicle. A healthy follicle grows healthy, thick hair.

What Adegen is built for

  • Androgenetic alopecia (male and female pattern hair loss), the most common form, over 90% of cases
  • Gradual thinning, reduced density, receding hairline, crown thinning
  • People who haven't responded to standard minoxidil (often because they're "non-responders"; see our guide on the difference between A5 and A15)
  • Men and women alike: the root cause is the same (see our guide on whether women can use Adegen products)

When Adegen may not be the right fit

Some hair loss has a different cause and needs medical evaluation first:

  • Alopecia areata and other autoimmune hair loss, usually sudden, patchy, or round bald spots
  • Hair loss from a medical condition, medication, major stress, or nutritional deficiency
  • Scarring hair loss, or sudden/unexplained loss

If any of these sound like your situation, your provider should weigh in before starting; we can connect you.

How to find out for your situation

The HairIQ™ assessment factors in your stage of loss, pattern, history, and clinical fit, then routes you to an appropriate protocol, and your Adegen telehealth physician makes the final call. We're honest when something falls outside what Adegen treats well; the goal is the right outcome for you, not a sale.
