How do I swap my topical formula?Updated 3 hours ago

Quick answer

Swapping your topical formula (for example, moving from A15 to A15D after consultation) is a clinical change, not a self-serve one. Message your Adegen telehealth provider through your account portal to request the swap. Once approved, your next shipment will go out with the new variant. There's no extra cost for the request itself, and only the new variant's pricing applies going forward.

When a Swap Makes Sense

1. You've been on a variant for 90+ days and want to step up

For example: A5 → A15 if you want more potency, or A15 → A15F if you and your physician decide a DHT blocker is the right add-on.

2. You want to step down to maintenance

For example: A15F → A15 if you've stabilized and want to simplify your protocol.

3. You want to change DHT blocker type

For example: A15F → A15D if your physician thinks more potent DHT suppression is appropriate.

4. You're switching from DHT-blocker-included to non-DHT-blocker (or vice versa)

This always requires physician review because of the clinical implications.

5. Your HairIQ™ result has changed

If you retook the assessment and got a different recommendation, that's a great conversation to bring to your provider.

How to Request a Swap

  1. Log in to your Adegen account.
  2. Find the messaging area for your telehealth provider.
  3. Write a clear message: which variant you're on, what variant you'd like to switch to, and why. Include any context that's relevant (how long you've been on the current variant, what you're seeing, any side effects).
  4. Submit.
  5. Your provider will review and respond, usually within 24–48 hours.
  6. If approved, your next shipment is updated. If your provider has questions or a different recommendation, you'll hear it from them.

Examples of Common Swap Requests

  • A5 → A5F (adding finasteride)
  • A5 → A15 (stepping up minoxidil strength)
  • A15F → A15D (switching from finasteride to dutasteride)
  • A15D → A15 (stepping down off a DHT blocker)
  • A5F → A15F (stepping up minoxidil while keeping the DHT blocker)

What You Can't Do

You can't change variants through your account portal directly. This is a prescription change, and a prescription change requires physician review. Same standard of care you'd expect from any prescribing physician.

What if My Provider Declines the Swap?

It happens, and it's not arbitrary. Your provider may see something in your medical history, your stage of loss, or your recent timeline that makes a different call the better one. They'll explain their reasoning. If you'd like a second look, message them with more context, or reach out to support to escalate.

Billing After a Swap

  • The new variant's pricing applies starting with the next shipment.
  • If the new variant is more expensive than the old one, the difference will be reflected in your next charge.
  • If the new variant is less expensive, your next charge will be lower.
  • No "swap fee" or extra charge for the request itself.
